I really want to pay attention to the little things. They do matter. Whether you believe they do or not, they do. A smile, some spare change, a quick text, fist bump, saying you’ll pray for someone and actually doing it, letting someone out into traffic. These are all practical little things that we can do today that make a difference. We may not see the fruit of it, but that doesn’t change the fact that little things bear fruit. Reminds me of a quote … Truth is not diminished by the number of people that believe it. Same with the impact of little things.
I was at a practice the other day where I told a player great job for diving for a ball. It was just a drill and none of the other teammates made a comment, but I looked her in the eye in normal tone of voice and said great effort. I then went on chatting with other players and coaches at practice. 5 days later, I ran into the players dad out in the community. He commented about me being up at practice where his child was. He told me he knew because their child had come home that day and told them how I really encouraged her to work hard and noticed when she made a diving play. I was really blown away that such a quick and little thing had made such an impact on this player.
In James, he talks about the impact of small things …“We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.” James 3:3-5 NLT
Now let’s consider, how many opportunities of great impact are we missing by withholding a little thing. Be encouraged today to make an impact with the little things.
